Thursday night and we were all setup for our usual run into ICC and a few more attempts at heroic bosses. Raring to go I stood there with 8 other members anxiously waiting for another evening of death and destruction, I'll point out here, I mean our death and our destruction. For the not mathamaticaly challenged here you will have noticed there that 8 + I = 9 not 10, yes, as has been the case many times over the summer we were missing our full group again, though tonight the missing member did have very good and unavoidable reasons to not be there. So amidst Ven's customary muttering and curses we went about trying to organise a replacement DPS, bearing in mind that the group setup was for a serious progression group heroic attempt we were in need of an experienced, competant, prepared and geared player to take along not just a random level 80 dps guild member.
[rant] I feel for Ven at times like this, getting a group of people together at the same time for a set amount of time in the same place never seems to be an easy task. And this always frustrates and puzzles me, if you are on a team surely you help support the team, wether that be football, rugby, ice hockey or ice crown. I honestly struggle to see the difference, especialy so when people say "it's just a game", so is football. Why should a "computer game" as a team be any different to a "game" as a team, after all isn't a commitment to others a commitment either way, be it on grass or in a vritual world, do you skip football because something good is on the telly? Additionaly, surely if you are picked for the A team wouldn't you send A team players not B team quality or your brother or friends because the half time medal might look good on their mantlepiece at the risk of loosing the end of game gold cup for the rest of the team. A team who each week has to re-learn and re-teach tactics, plays and positioning with a differnt team makeup and as a result never gets out of the qualifiers into the finals for a chance at the gold cup, just so more brothers and friends can get half-time medals. [rant over]
After much poking about in the guild and discussion amongst the group it was decided to bring along Monsoonx to replace me as the paladin healer and I would bring along Furckling to augment the DPS make up. As Ven says, he doesn't like breaking up his holy healer trinity of Mendef Reenee/Lemon and myself (never understood why, as I'm the easy one to replace as the weekest healer) and the addition of another melee class slightly skewed the prefered makeup of our group. So with our 10 people, if not our normal makeup, off we went into ICC 10 heroic feeling a little anxious and wondering if the group makeup would work out or not. Heroic Marrowgar quickly ensued and so did death and destruction (serveral times). At this point confidence was slipping a little, I for one was wondering if the group make up was up to it, and I could also hear it in Vens voice that he wasn't too sure either. I'll confess that my death on the first attempt, and probably that wipe was more than likely my fault as I was all fingers and thumbs with my new mouse (Naga )and my hand just couldnt work out what it was meant to be doing. After all changing mouse after over 10 years of using the same model (I buy them in boxes of 12 and use them on all my PCs) is a bit of a shock to the hand that has become accustomed to a certain shape and size (and before you lot say it "giggity" and "that's what she said"), needless to say half way through that first fight the new mouse was uncerimoniously chucked behind my screen and the old mouse, which I'd left plugged in "just-in-case", was retrieved and used for the rest of the evening (I'll restart the hand re-education this weekend when I have a little more time, less pressure and some KY Jelly).
After a bit of "encouragement" from Ven we finally downed Marrowgar HC and all our spirits picked up as the groups makeup began to gel and we settled into our roles and interactions with each other that is normaly second nature to us on progression runs. Now, originaly we had planned to do Marrowgar,Gunship and Rotface on HC for last night run and also have a pop at Saurfang heroic, but Ven had done some foprum reading and decided that maybe Deathwhisper was not as hard as people made out so we were going to have one or 2 looks at her HC before killing her normal and moving on to the "easier" kills. Well, to all our suprise the first pop at Deathwhisper saw her nearly dead, and we all realised at that point that we could down her and earn another HC kill for the KLF. Which of course we did, it took us a few more wipes and a few silly mistakes but the group was doing really well and we eventually downed her. I'll point out here that at the time Ven mentioned we would try Deathwhisper on HC my ears perked up as Furckling would have a chance to upgrade her Whispering Fanged Skull to one of the best pally DPS trinkets in game (the heropic version of the same) so when we downed her and Ven said on TS "it's here" my stomach did a quick lurch and the butterflies started flapping, but I didn't get too excited as my damn dice have been letting me down for the last 2 or 3 weeks with the usual single figure rolls, I need not have worried, as to my total shock and delight I won the roll and Furckling is now the proud owner of Whispering Fanged Skull.
Gunship then followed, and even on HC this turned into a bit of a comic event as both Ven and I were not paying attention at the start, both of us in the cannons immediatelyy overheated our guns.... and then when the mage arrived on the other ship we both realized we had forgot to equip our rocket packs, less chopsing more concentration needed..... DOH! Despite those two "deliberate ploys to get the most out of our ranged dps" we still waltzed through Gunship with no problems, and sadly still no HC shield for our tanks, and onward to Saurfang.
Again Ven decided we would have one or maybe 2 looks at Saurfang before moving on to easier meat, again we were a little worried about the Bloodbeast control as we were only 3 ranged and lacking in any easy crowd control or slows for the beasts. /charge, and we downed him in one shot and I think that shocked us all, between Dzons awsome DPS on the beasts (that man really is a legend of the KLF) some judicious Hammers from me and chains from Ven on the beats, and some excellent cooldown managment from our tanks we got him down with 2 marks and no deaths in our first attempt. And the KLF is now the proud owner of Heroic: Storming the Citadel and 5/12 ICC 10 HC. Way to go guys :)
Killing Rotface affter that was mearly a formality and our raiding evening came to a very successfull close. We had blooded another guild healer in Monsoonx, who performed excellently and healed like a troopper. And as usual in situations like this I start doubting and questioning my own healing abilities, change healer and we do stuff that I couldnt heal....... but that's another story for another time.
So every kill the KLF made last night was a heroic kill.......
All in all an excellent evening and Furckling came away with Sanctified Lightsworn Helmet from an ICC 25 directly after the guild run and Whispering Fanged Skull from Deathwhisper leaving me one 251 tier peice to upgrade.
I Am a Raider!
